Anatomy of a Book Library

Architecture / Interior Design

Unbuilt 2014. Size 115,000 s.f, Daegu Gosan, South Korea

The composition of a book is simple, the covers and the pages connected by a spine. Only the writing and information on the pages are what truly distinguishes books from each other.

The proposed library builds on the concept, with a ground floor and roof that wrap the entire building to protect the information within.

The spine is replaced with the vertical core of stairs and elevators to facilitate movement between the alternating floors.

These floors are divided by the types and sections of books being kept.

The entire building is then enclosed in full height glass curtain walls with UV protections.
