We look to bridge the surrounding community and culture of Helsinki to the New Guggenheim Museum. The museum acts as a primary threshold to this cultural domain, linking in with the old with the new of the surrounding context. A public forecourt, blends the threshold between inside and outside space and blurs the lines between public and private creating a new civic realm. Suomenlinna’s proximity pays homage to the nearby vital seafront. The Finnish woodwork that pervades through the interior is spotlighted against a neutral interior, showcasing its exemplary craftsmanship, with select uses throughout the museum’s various spaces.
